Our History

Following the deregulation of the Canadian telecom industry in 1998, Anthony Lacavera saw an opportunity – an opportunity to provide next-generation telecommunications solutions globally. While competitors focused on building networks and infrastructure, Globalive (known then as Canopco) focused on bringing new technologies to traditional services. Globalive built everything in-house, in contrast to other telecom companies that were going public and increasing their hiring and spending.

As Globalive entered the new millennium, its remarkable success in the first few years of business created a need to expand in order to meet growing client demands. Several of Globalive’s key employees were hired, many of which remain with the company today.

This initial expansion marked the beginning of growth that Globalive continues to enjoy, including the diversification of its portfolio of services with the acquisition of Yak communications in 2006, the launch of its philanthropic foundation SHAMBA in 2007, and most recently, its entry into the wireless market with WIND Mobile in 2009.

Acquisitions have played an important role in the successful growth of Globalive. From the beginning, the company has consistently introduced innovative technologies and software solutions to the Canadian telecommunications market through production and partnership. To this day, Globalive remains a privately owned Canadian company.
