• Canadians celebrate six months of wireless choice: WIND Mobile shapes offering by listening to customers

  • June 16, 2010

Customers enjoy more places nationally to use unlimited service, new data add-ons, more handset choice, SIM card-only options

TORONTO, ON – June 16, 2010 – Canadian consumers asked, and they received. Since launching in December 2009, WIND Mobile has changed the landscape of the mobile industry in Canada for the better – keeping its promise to listen to Canadians on all things wireless.

Six months and thousands of conversations later, Canada’s first national wireless provider in over a decade continues to champion change for a new kind of mobile experience for Canadians. WIND Mobile continues to enhance its offering in response to feedback from customers, having launched its offering in Vancouver – its fifth market in the country – in addition to Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa.

“We’re proud to be a pioneer in paving the way for wireless choice for Canadian consumers,” said Anthony Lacavera, Chairman of WIND Mobile. “It’s been six months since our launch and we’re keeping our promise to keep the conversation alive. We’re also proud to be a leading contributor in effecting change to make Canada’s telecommunications sector more competitive.”

WIND has upheld its mandate to collaborate with customers by continuing to respond to their input and ideas on everything from handsets and plans, to ring tones and data add-ons. Since launch, WIND has implemented the following:

• Expanded network coverage to over 10 million Canadians by more than doubling the number of cell sites nation-wide since launch to improve its coverage footprint.
• Employing state of the art technology to build an all-IP 3G network, making it the most advanced wireless network in Canada.
• Enabling WIND customers to use their unlimited features in all new markets.
• Providing a wider range of handsets.
• Option to purchase SIM cards only.
• Extending the popular ‘Everybody WINDs’ until June 30th, giving new customers 50 per cent off any voice plan for the first six months and all customers – both existing and new – one month of free plan fees for every new customer they sign up (to a maximum of six).
• Incorporating three new data add-ons, Charged Mobile, Charged BlackBerry, and Social Mobile, a direct response from customers who expressed that they were not heavy data users and were looking for lighter options.
• Offering one flat, affordable rate of 25 cents per minute across Canada and US for roaming customers throughout the continent.
• Extending roaming coverage for both postpaid and prepaid customers to more than 200 countries.

“Everyday, we continue to receive valuable feedback and amazing new ideas from our customers,” said Ken Campbell, CEO of WIND Mobile. “With every comment and suggestion we are truly seeing the power of conversation in action and are incredibly grateful to the thousands of Canadians who have helped us build and improve WIND Mobile.”

WIND Mobile’s core offer is true value for Canadians with affordable and customizable plans, unlimited WIND to WIND calling, no charges on incoming text, no charges on incoming long distance, coverage across Canada, US and 200 countries worldwide and no contracts.
