  • The issue The nation’s regulator, the CRTC, has ruled Globalive Wireless Management Corp. is controlled by foreigners and therefore ineligible to enter Canada’s $16-billion cellphone industry. The ruling follows an approval of Globalive’s ownership structure by Industry Canada. Tony Clement, the Industry Minister, is expected to decide on the matter this week.

  • WIND Mobile keeping call-centre staff busy

  • Anu Singer manages WIND Mobile’s call centre in Mississauga. It has about 100 employees. They finished weeks of training on Friday – the 13th – and haven’t answered a call since. It might have been a bad omen but for the CRTC, which pre-empted any possible bad luck from on high by dishing out some of its own, ensuring there are no customers to require any sort of service.
