  • WIND Mobile spreads its wings in Ottawa

  • WIND Mobile launched service in Ottawa Friday, in the first wave of new wireless service providers taking aim at giant incumbents.

    WIND said the new network covers Ottawa within the Greenbelt and will expand soon to cover all of Kanata, Orléans and Gatineau.

    Customers seeking service from outside the calling area will pay an additional 25 cents a minute roaming fee on top of monthly package costs but no long-distance charges.

    WIND chief executive Ken Campbell said “tens of thousands of customers” have signed up so far in launches in Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary.

  • One of Canada’s fastest growing wireless communications providers appears set to expand their service to more and more of Canada. On Friday, Wind Mobile expanded their Canadian service and launched service in Ottawa. According to Wind Mobile, this is just the first move that the company will take in an attempt to compete with the national wireless leaders.

  • Startup Wind Mobile is now selling service in Ottawa, the fourth city in the country it operates in after Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton. Wind has said service in Vancouver will start sometime next month. The company, whose parent is Globalive Wireless Management Corp. of Toronto, has vowed to create a national service covering most of the country except southern Quebec. It’s in a bit of a race to grab mind share before two other wireless startups launch service: Mobilicity, the brand name of parent DAVE Wireless, andPublic Mobile.

  • Wind Mobile is launching service in Ottawa on Friday, the fourth city in the upstart wireless company’s plan for near-national coverage.

    The company’s Ottawa launch is kicking off with two service kiosks in Blockbuster Video stores. Wind will be adding two more Blockbuster locations, as well as two kiosks in Futureshop stores and one in a Best Buy over the next several weeks, a spokesperson said.

Aside from competing with the three incumbent carriers, each new carrier has been touting their superiority via press releases and comments from company executives.
