TORONTO, ON – May 16, 2012 – WIND Mobile knows that the best things in life are free. Tomorrow it will help Canadians to stretch their dollars even further by allowing them to choose a free add-on when activating its $40 Plan.

“There’s nothing more transparent than something being free,” said Nisha Amin, Senior Manager Media and PR, WIND Mobile. “For only $40 a month, WIND customers can enjoy unlimited Canada-wide talk, text and data and can add one of our two most popular add-ons like Voicemail plus or World Saver free of charge, all on a $0 phone with no term contract!”

The World Saver is a valuable add-on providing users with unlimited international text and international calling rates to over 200 countries across the world starting at only once cent a minute.

“Both add-ons are regularly priced at $8 a month and with this great promotion customers can save almost $100 a year,” said Amin. “The offer keeps generating value for as long as they are a WIND customer.”

The complimentary add-ons continue to support WIND Mobile’s goal of focusing on higher value postpaid segments, now accounting for over 40% of the base, which recently climbed to well over 430,000 active customers.

The ad-ons become available across all participating locations on Thursday May 17th, and the offer will continue until Monday June 4th.

Toronto (May 8, 2012) – The race is about to begin as The Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) prepares for its annual CHS Quest: Smartphone Scavenger Hunt & Race. CHS has partnered with WIND Mobile to provide every CHS Quest team with a smartphone to use to solve clues and find Quest Stops across the city. Each clue on the smartphone is fully accessible in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English, and is captioned.

“Mobile technology has become a part of our everyday lives and it’s great to incorporate this into our signature fundraising event,” says Susan Main, CHS Vice President, Fundraising. “CHS Quest brings additional awareness to the communication barriers faced by Deaf and hard of hearing people and raises funds to support our more than 17 programs and services.”

“WIND Mobile applauds the continuous efforts of CHS and is happy to help support this wonderful fundraising event,” said Nisha Amin, Senior Manager Media and Public Relations. “We are a customer-driven company and have surpassed over 400,000 customers because of the support of Canadians looking for more from their wireless provider. CHS Quest is a great opportunity for us to continue to give back to the community and help improve access to communication.”

“As CHS Quest continues to grow each year, it allows us to reach out to more communities,” says Chris Kenopic, CHS President and CEO. “Our goal is to remove barriers to communication, advance hearing health, and promote equity for people who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened, and hard of hearing.

Supreme Court Says It Will Not Grant Leave to Appeal

Toronto, April 26, 2012 – The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled against Public Mobile in its long-running fight against WIND and the Attorney General. Earlier today the highest court in the land denied Public Mobile leave to appeal an earlier Federal Court of Appeal decision that effectively confirmed WIND’s compliance with the Canadian ownership rules in the Telecom Act.

The Supreme Court’s decision conclusively ends WIND’s long running regulatory and legal battles with its competitors over its compliance with Canadian ownership rules.

“WIND is interested in fighting in the marketplace to provide Canadians with fair, transparent and competitive wireless offerings, not in fighting in courtrooms,” said Anthony Lacavera, Chairman of WIND Mobile. “We’re extremely pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision, which will allow us to tie off this loose end and continue working with the best interests of Canadians firmly in mind.”

“Our employees have stuck by us, we have continued to invest in building Canada’s third national wireless network and we continue to grow our customer base. There are now over 400,000 happy customers who are with WIND because they choose to be, not because we’ve locked them into an onerous contract,” said Lacavera.

“We are moving full force ahead with over 490 points of distribution, the introduction of new handsets to our lineup each month and easy-to-understand plans that provide Canadians with the kind of national wireless service that they deserve.”

Public Mobile’s leave application was dismissed with costs in favour of Globalive.

The company continues to make it easier to talk, text and surf in Canada

TORONTO, ON – April 16, 2012 – WIND Mobile continues to give Canadians what they are asking for: easy-to-understand plans, zero dollar phones, jargon free language and all of it 100% contract-free.

Just days after the Government of Ontario tabled the introduction of legislation to protect wireless consumers in Ontario WIND Mobile has launched its new offerings for spring, focused on keeping it easy and transparent.

“WIND Mobile has remained focused on providing Canadians with competitive offerings without locking them into messy contracts and cancellation fees,” said Anthony Lacavera, CEO of WIND Mobile. “We have over 400, 000 happy customers who are with us because they choose to be, not because they’ll get hit with insane contract cancellation fees”.

Choosing one of two WIND plans could not be easier and consumers can rest assured that their bills will be free of surprises. Customers can pair a $25 plan including Unlimited local talk and Unlimited text anywhere from anywhere on the WIND network with 100 MB of data and caller ID, or a $40 plan including Unlimited Canada-wide talk, text and data from anywhere on the WIND network and caller ID, with a zero dollar phone like the BlackBerry® CurveTM 9360. As always, there is no contract and customer loyalty continues even without cancellation charges to tie them down.

“We continue to encourage Canadians to join the conversation,” added Lacavera. “WIND is consistently growing its network and its quality of service. Customers can now choose from two easy plans and do not have to weed through multiple options that are virtually the same. This is due to the ongoing feedback from Canadians that want more, and deserve more from their wireless provider.”

Here’s what some WIND customers have to say:

“Before WIND I got headaches trying to figure out why I got $70 bills on a $30 phone plan,” Fatlum G., WIND customer since December 2010.

“No term contracts and amazing plans make for a happy customer – me!” said Antonnette M., WIND Mobile customer since June 2010.

“No fuss, no muss! Awesome and affordable phones. Period.” Said LeRoi L., WIND Mobile customer since May 2011

Pro-consumer move to ensure clarity and choice long overdue for Ontario residents

TORONTO – April 12, 2012 – WIND Mobile today commended the Government of Ontario on its introduction of legislation to protect wireless consumers in Ontario, something WIND Mobile has been actively advocating for years. The legislation, which would simplify and create greater transparency in wireless contracts, would also limit the ability of large wireless carriers to charge anticompetitive early termination fees and punitive charges.

“Hats off to the Government of Ontario for demonstrating leadership on consumer protection in the wireless market,” said Anthony Lacavera, Chairman and CEO of WIND Mobile. “As longstanding champions of wireless choice for Canadians, WIND Mobile is glad to see Ontario taking strides to promote real competition and protect consumers from unfair practices. This is a good day for consumer protection.”

The Ontario legislation is similar to consumer protection legislation passed in the provinces of Manitoba and Quebec and currently introduced in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Those various statutes contain a number of provisions designed to give residents greater protection in their interactions with wireless carriers.

“Everyone wins with greater competition. We are happy Ontario has recognized that mandatory clear rules and effective enforcement tools are necessary to ensure that consumers can make informed choices and act on those choices, which is what is needed to keep the traditional wireless carriers from abusing their market power,” added Lacavera. “It shows that the Government of Ontario understands that competition is not just allowing new providers into the marketplace. We also need to remove the barriers that prevent consumers from taking advantage of increased choice and better value. The proposed legislation promises to do just that. All Canadians should be offered similar protection and I hope other provinces will follow suit.”

Canada’s wireless sector has historically suffered from a high degree of concentration and insufficient competition. Market mechanisms and self-regulation alone have not been enough to protect Canadian consumers from abusive practices of the dominant wireless carrriers, such as activation fees, system access fee and relatively long (three year) contracts. For example, according to a 2010 study, “Death Grip: Caught in a Contract and Cannot Quit”, at 24-36 months, typical Canadian postpaid contract terms are the longest in the world. The same report noted that a Canadian seeking to cancel his or her iPhone after 6 months would pay a about twice as much as an American – An AT & T customer would pay $256, while a customer of one of the Big Three would pay between $500 and $600.
