Engineers Without Borders Canada rallied the most votes and received a $50,000 donation in the Best Conversation Ever Charity Challenge – plus, five runner-ups each receive $10,000

TORONTO, ON – March 22nd, 2011 –Today WIND Mobile announced the six winners of the Charity Challenge, part of the national competition Best Conversation Ever. From January 24 to March 7, Canadian charities competed online for votes to split a $100,000 donation from WIND Mobile and Canadians entered to compete for the conversation of their dreams by answering the question: If you could talk to anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Taking home the top prize with more than 13,000 votes is Engineers without Borders Canada, who help to improve living conditions and provide clean water to communities in Africa. Despite a later start in the challenge, they engaged their supporters in every way possible to earn them a $50,000 donation from WIND Mobile.

“I’d like to thank WIND for its unique contest and incredible generosity,” said George Roter, CEO and Co-founder of Engineers Without Borders Canada. “The flexible funding will allow us to send two volunteers to Africa for a year, where they’ll work with a local partner to create change for thousands of people. These funds help make their work possible, and the contest let our supporters here in Canada play a role too.”

“Having learned about the great work that this organization does, I was very excited to see Engineers Without Boarders take home the grand prize,” said Anthony Lacavera, Chairman of WIND Mobile. “The Charity Challenge has been a highlight of Best Conversation Ever and we are overjoyed to share the first $100,000 with some very deserving charities. I can’t wait to see who will receive the five following $100,000 donations when we announce the individual conversation winners!”

The battle for five $10,000 runner-up donations was very competitive with both national and local charities working hard to maintain a spot in the runner-up category. After six weeks, the following charities each received $10,000:
1. Rabbit Rescue Incorporated
2. St. Alban’s Boys’ and Girls’ Club
3. World University Service
4. Windsor/Essex County Humane Society
5. Oxfam Canada

The Best Conversation Ever competition ran from January 24 to March 7 and will give five lucky Canadians the conversations they never dreamed possible. The popular competition attracted over 2,500 submission and 50,000 votes. Once the winners are selected, WIND Mobile will donate $100,000 on behalf of each of the chosen personalities/celebrities for participating in the conversation, for a total of $500,000 donated to Canadian Charities – plus $100,000 in the Charity Challenge. The winners will be selected by a panel of WIND Mobile judges and industry leading bloggers. Entries will be judged based on creativity and number of votes.
