• WIND Mobile To Lend 300 Helping Hands At Daily Bread Food Bank

WIND delivers largest ‘random act of kindness’ yet as it awaits government response

Toronto – November 30, 2009 – WIND Mobile is sending 150 employees this morning to help Daily Bread Food Bank assemble thousands of bags in record time, as part of its Random Acts of Kindness initiative.

WIND Mobile was unable to launch as it awaits the government’s response to the CRTC’s recent decision. As such, the company found itself in an unusual situation – with close to 400 employees who had just finished their training, with time on their hands.

WIND Mobile opted to give back, sending employees into communities across the GTA and Calgary to make positive change. They started by brainstorming on what kinds of things they could be doing – and then they started calling and having conversations – with everyone from the Salvation Army to local food banks and seniors’ homes for the past two weeks.

This morning will see its biggest event yet, with 150 employees at Daily Break Food Bank.

Over five short days, Daily Bread Food Bank and their volunteers will put together special holiday bags, filled with food and treats for families with children up to age of 12. These are essential and non-essential food items meant to add some cheer over the holidays: pancake mix and syrup for Christmas breakfasts, tangerines and kid-friendly treats, along with food staples.

Over 10,000 families received the bags when the program launched in 2008. This year, the goal is to help even more families.
